The POMC pomc (Catalog #MBS128070) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The POMC Polyclonal Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. MyBioSource\'s POMC can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB).WB: 1:500 - 1:2000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the POMC pomc for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process.
The POMC pomc product has the following accession number(s) (GI #116880) (NCBI Accession #P01189.2) (Uniprot Accession #P01189). Researchers may be interested in using Bioinformatics databases such as those available at The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) website for more information about accession numbers and the proteins they represent. Even researchers unfamiliar with bioinformatics databases will find the NCBI databases to be quite user friendly and useful.

This gene encodes a polypeptide hormone precursor that undergoes extensive, tissue-specific, post-translational processing via cleavage by subtilisin-like enzymes known as prohormone convertases. There are eight potential cleavage sites within the polypeptide precursor and, depending on tissue type and the available convertases, processing may yield as many as ten biologically active peptides involved in diverse cellular functions. The encoded protein is synthesized mainly in corticotroph cells of the anterior pituitary where four cleavage sites are used; adrenocorticotrophin, essential for normal steroidogenesis and the maintenance of normal adrenal weight, and lipotropin beta are the major end products. In other tissues, including the hypothalamus, placenta, and epithelium, all cleavage sites may be used, giving rise to peptides with roles in pain and energy homeostasis, melanocyte stimulation, and immune modulation.
Species: Human
Route: Synthetic Peptide. Immunogen: A synthetic peptide of human POMC
Calculated Molecular Weight: 29kDa. In general, we may offer more than one antibody to a given target to enable options for the researcher. Available antibodies recognizing POMC are readily searchable from our website. Different antibodies against the same target such as POMC may be optimized or tested for different applications and species. This enables researchers to select the option that may be best for their model system, to screen more than antibody to determine which one may be best for their model system, as well as to use more than one antibody to follow up on and validate their results. The following patways have been known to be associated with this gene.
