The Scnn1b scnn1b (Catalog #MBS806568) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-ENaC Beta Antibody reacts with Humna, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. MyBioSource\'s ENaC Beta can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunoprecipitation (IP), Immunofluorescence (IF), Immunocytochemistry (ICC).WB (1:1000)
Optimal dilutions for assays should be determined by the user. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the Scnn1b scnn1b for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process.
The Scnn1b scnn1b product has the following accession number(s) (GI #25742736) (NCBI Accession #NP_036780) (Uniprot Accession #P37090). Researchers may be interested in using Bioinformatics databases such as those available at The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) website for more information about accession numbers and the proteins they represent. Even researchers unfamiliar with bioinformatics databases will find the NCBI databases to be quite user friendly and useful.

Scientific Background: The Epithelial Sodium Channel (ENaC) is a membrane ion channel permeable to Na+ ions. It is located in the apical plasma membrane of epithelia in the kidneys, lung, colon, and other tissues where it plays a role in trans epithelial Na+-ion transport (1). Specifically Na+ transport via ENaC occurs across many epithelial surfaces, and plays a key role in regulating salt and water absorption (2). ENaCs are composed of three structurally related subunits that form a tetrameric channel, alpha, beta, and gamma. The expression of its alpha and beta subunits is enhanced as keratinocytes differentiate (3, 4). The beta and gamma-ENaC subunits are essential for edema fluid to exert its maximal effect on net fluid absorption by distal lung epithelia(5). And it has been concluded that the subunits are differentially expressed in the retina of mice with ocular hypertension, therefore the up-regulation of alpha-ENaC proteins could serve as a protection mechanism against elevated intraocular pressure (6).
